Human remains found near missing Texas student’s apartment

Texas city workers on Monday discovered decomposed human remains in a 40-foot deep wastewater well near the apartment building where Caleb Harris, a 21-year-old Texas college student, went missing four months ago, the New York Post reported. The remains were found at approximately 3:30 pm at a wastewater lift station in Corpus Christi.
According to police, the unidentified body “bore no obvious signs of homicide,” but due to the advanced state of decomposition, the medical examiner was unable to determine the identity or cause of death.Harris, a student at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, disappeared on March 4 while walking near his apartment complex in the early morning hours.
Before his disappearance, Harris sent a Snapchat photo to a friend around 3 am, showing him walking near a small bridge over a drainage ditch near his apartment entrance. His roommate reported him missing the following morning after discovering an untouched UberEats order placed by Harris around 3:20 am.
Corpus Christi police chief Mike Markle informed that identifying the body could take four to six weeks. “A lot of folks looking for closure, a lot of folks looking for quick answers,” he said. The remains were found in a 40-foot deep well filled with wastewater. First responders in hazmat suits retrieved the body after draining the collection point.
The remains are being sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification for DNA analysis to determine the identity.
