That President Joe Biden ‘screwed up’ the first presidential debate with Donald Trump is not a secret to himself but the President has now acknowledged the debacle in exact these words in a radio program on July 4. “I had a bad night. And the fact of the matter is that, you know, I screwed up,” Biden said in an interview with radio host Earl Ingram. “I made a mistake. But I learned from my father, when you get knocked down, you just get back up. And you know, we’re going to win this election,” Biden said.
“We’re going to just beat Donald Trump. And like we did in 2020, we’re going to beat him again. But we need all of you to get this done. All of you,” Biden said.
“I didn’t have a good debate. That’s 90 minutes of stage. Look at what I’ve done in 3.5 years. I’ve led the economy back from the brink of collapse. It’s still improving. We have got more to do. I lowered prescription drug prices. I’ve worked with Republicans to expand veterans’ health care,” he said.
‘Biden not going anywhere’
Amid a lot of speculations over whether Kamala Harris will replace Biden as the Democrat candidate against Donald Trump, Biden Wednesday made it clear that he was not going to step aside. Biden met a group of Democratic governors and informed them that he was staying in the election campaign. Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, who was also being seen as a potential replacement, said, “I heard three words from the president — he’s all in. And so am I.”
The meeting closed with Vice President Kamala Harris describing the threats to democracy that a victory by former President Donald Trump could pose, tossing at least one expletive into her remarks, according to a person briefed on what took place.
